NSCMB FEB RAS helps applied medicine: Synaptamide in the treatment of nerve injuries

On the Russian Science Day February, 8, the A.V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology FEB RAS in collaboration with the Primorsky Aquarium set up a new video project on the research and discoveries of the scientists working in the Center.
The first films is about the studies of synaptamide carried out by a team of scientists led by Igor Manzhulo, PhD, from the Laboratory of Pharmacology. Synaptamide is an endogenous metabolite of docosahexaenoic acid (omega-3 PUFA) that produces anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects on the peripheral and central nervous systems. It is also a promising therapeutic agent for the treatment of nerve injuries and concomitant memory deficits caused by neuroinflammation and neural tissue degradation.
