Educational project for school children changes its format to go beyond the Aquarium’s walls

The most popular part of the Educational Environment project – the Lesson at the Aquarium program – is now available in an online learning format, and school children from across Primorye can participate in it, regardless of where they live.

“The Primorsky Aquarium is mindful of the health of the Territory’s residents that is why we have expanded our largest and best-known program into a new dimension,” stressed Olga Shevchenko, Head of the Environmental Education Service. “We provide the Lesson at the Aquarium in a new — distance — format: now learning sessions at the exhibits can be held via videos. Ten lesson packages have currently been prepared, and they will be offered to pupils in grades 1 to 11.”

Each package includes a 10-20-minute video, a pupil worksheet and teacher guidance materials. Any of these lessons can be conducted, as intended by the Aquarium’s educators, during the entire class session at school. The transition to a remote mode will make the program even more accessible.

“The Primorsky Regional Institute for Education Development, with whom we have a partnership agreement, assisted us in our work on the online course,” said Olga Shevchenko. “It was colleagues from the Institute that made an expert analysis of the video lessons to establish that each of them was aligned with the Federal State Educational Standard. We hope to get feedback from teachers because their evaluations and responses will help us to improve the lessons.”
