Lunch for carps

Lunch for carps

Three times a week – on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday – those who wish may participate in feeding carps in the large pond at the promenade area of the Primorsky Aquarium. Visitors will be invited to feed the fish with a balanced pelleted food suitable for these cyprinids.

“People like to take care of fishes residing in the ponds and feed them but it should be done only at specific times and only with specialized food,” said Ekaterina Aleksandrova, staff member at the Primorsky Aquarium. “Over the years of keeping carps we have developed the best possible dietary regimen that allows our charges to constantly be in fine fettle. We have noticed an interesting pattern – their appetite depends on the weather: when it is cloudy, the fish typically eat very little, and on a sunny day they, on the contrary, eat a lot.”

Now the large pond at the promenade area is home to over a hundred of adult koi and common carps and to more than two hundred young-of-the-year – fish born in the pond this year. It is strictly forbidden to feed the fish with inappropriate food as it is injurious to their health and may result in them getting sick or even dying.

All those who wish are welcome at the large pond at 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The outdoor fish feedings will be held until mid-October, and then the carps will be relocated to the overwintering tanks.
