Meet Humboldt Penguins
Humboldt penguins (3 males and 3 females) have moved to the Polar World Exhibit from the Research Building for Adaptation where they got successfully acclimatized. Since arriving from the Czech Republic, each of the penguins has already gained an average of 1 kilo. Ornithologists consider it to be a very good result. Yet, the penguins look very small in their new spacious aviary. Our Aquarium specialists were afraid that the birds would get confused and nervous but they reacted to their relocation calmly.
“The fact that the relocation didn’t affect the birds’ appetite means they feel at home here,” says Ksenia Lyubimkina, a specialist of the Aquarium.
Now the penguins enjoy playing, swimming and exploring their aviary. They spend most of the day in the pool, even sleeping there. The water temperature is maintained within a range of +9℃ to +11℃, the air temperature may vary from +13℃ to +16 ℃.
For a long time the penguins born in captivity saw only those people who took care of them. Nevertheless, now they are not scared of a large number of visitors walking behind the glass.
