Vegetation health monitoring is being conducted on the Primorsky Aquarium’s grounds: special traps for pest insects have been placed in the coniferous and deciduous trees, and in the shrubs.

“We have launched a serious scientific program to inspect the exterior premises of our facility for the presence of pest insects,” said Arkadiy Bezdelev, Head of the Grounds Management Department at the Primorsky Aquarium. “Simple visual identification of insects posing a threat to the greenery is insufficient. For this reason, we hung traps, which consist of a pheromone lure attracting insects and a retaining device, on the trees. The traps will hang for three weeks, then we will able to check what insects live here and if they include those who may endanger our plants.”

This is the first time that such a survey is being undertaken at the Aquarium but it is planned to take place on a regular basis in the future.
