Teach out of love: Chasing the Future educational program at Primorsky Aquarium

Biology workshops have been conducted in the learning labs of the Primorsky Aquarium specially for teenagers interested in teaching and psychology. The students had a unique opportunity to work with professional research equipment, to try some methods of microscopy, to learn what the terms “plankton” and “algae bloom” mean, to examine seawater samples under a microscope and to wonder at the diversity of tiny plankton organisms in the samples.

Members of the Education Department demonstrated that their love for biology and passionate desire to share their knowledge could carry any audience along.

Anastasia, 10th grade:

“Never in my life have I dreamt of being a biologist or working at a laboratory. I’ve always thought it was extremely boring. However, after just an hour of this workshop I felt that laboratory work can be exciting for people of all ages. Even if you’ve never been interested in biology or chemistry and never intended to work at a lab, you must come to the Primorsky Aquarium at least once and dive into this world to feel a whole range of positive emotions!”

Chasing the Future is an educational program organized by “Sirius. Primorye”, the Regional Centre for Identifying and Nurturing Talents in Children and Teenagers, and the School of Education, the Far Eastern Federal University, in collaboration with the Primorsky Aquarium. The program is being conducted for 15-17- year-old students attending specialized psychology and pedagogy classes in Primorsky Krai schools, as well as for the awardees and winners of national psychology and pedagogy olympiads.
