The Aquarium at the heart of international cooperation

Last week the Primorsky Aquarium was attended by a substantial delegation from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam headed by Mr. Ngo Hoai Chung, Deputy Director General of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. The delegation also included staff members of the Consulate General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, representatives of the largest Vietnamese travel agencies and leading performers of the Vietnam National Music, Song and Dance Theatre. The members of the delegation arrived in Vladivostok after visiting Moscow where they had participated in the official opening ceremony of the Russian-Vietnamese Cross Year. Development of bilateral relationships continued to be discussed at the Primorsky Aquarium venue.

“Good neighbourly relations have been maintained between your city and our country over a long period of time,” said Mr. Ngo Hoai Chung. “We are pleased to have seen how Vladivostok is being developed and to have discovered new attractions in the city, the most modern and impressive of which is the Primorsky Aquarium. We will recommend it to our compatriots as a must visit place in Vladivostok.”

Mr. Ngo Hoai Chung also emphasized that the economic growth strategy of Vietnam considered the development of the country’s marine resources to be a priority. Research activity of the Institute of Oceanography in Nha Trang and sharing of best scientific practices between two countries have a special role to play in this process.

“The Primorsky Aquarium is a branch of the National Scientific Center of Marine Biology that has been collaborating with the Institute of Oceanography in Nha Trang on the study and preservation of marine biodiversity for several decades,” said Olga Shevchenko, Head of the Environmental Education Service at the Primorsky Aquarium. “The Aquarium has been established as a research and education center of international standing, and its activities cover three main areas: scientific research, environmental education and tourism. Now we have an opportunity to add a new dimension to our working relationship, and the program of the Russian-Vietnamese Cross Year will definitely result in an increased flow of tourists between our countries.”
