The doctor-fish at the Primorsky Aquarium can take patients every day

Transported recently from the Scientific-adaptive center to the main Aquarium building, the wrassies are now experiencing a serious flow of patients.

Watchful visitors can see how small quick fish arrange procedures for neighbors in the aquarium. Wrassies are also called doctor-fish or cleaners. They are present in each aquarium, where marine tropical fish are kept.

For their "reception rooms" wrassies choose certain places. Often it is a large stone, located right next to a various shelter. Swim in the “cleansing areas” other fish shows remarkable patience, while the wrassies work on their appearance. "Patients" open their gill slits, spread the fins and retain completely still until the "doctors" finish the procedure. Large fish actually lie on their side to simplify the work of the cleaners.

Wrassies feed on parasites from other fish. They are real hard workers and work without days off. Fish never touch wrassies, because before the "sanitation", "doctors" perform a special "dance". This is an identification signal for all "patients". Thus, the aquatic organisms of the Primorsky Aquarium are naturally protected from various parasites. These symbiotic relationships between the inhabitants of coral reefs have been evolving over thousands of years.
