The Far Eastern Marine Reserve helped children with their first field research

"NooGen", the name of school for children from Siberia, had held their first field trip on the island of Popova (11-12 July, 2017)

What is "NooGen"?

  • It is an initiative group of passionate people who are involved in the education and development of school children.
  • It is an entertaining education, built on communication with interesting people and gaining the skills of independent research during the summer field trips.

To visit the Far East, to see the Sea of Japan was an old dream of NooGen’s. children who have already visited many unique places of Russia.

They were on expeditions to Altai, Krasnoyarsk region, Baikal and today, their dream came true with an expedition to Primorsky region on the Russian and Popov Islands. Co-organizers of this field school, Far East Marine Reserve and Primorsky Aquarium - are the units of the National Scientific Center of Marine Biology, Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Anna Gulbina, the head of the environmental education of the Marine Reserve, together with the experts of the department of environmental education of the Primorsky Aquarium Artem Pianov and Platon Ostashkin, have developed a two-day program of field research.

Despite the bad weather, the expedition succeeded! The outcomes: the level of the tide was measured, the high-quality biological objects were collected at the littoral and sublittoral zones to a depth of 5 meters and then partially determined.
