The Primorsky Aquarium expands the scope of international cooperation
The Primorsky Aquarium and the Penghu Aquarium (Taiwan) have signed a cooperative agreement that aims to enhance collaboration in the fields of research and environmental education and to implement programs - unprecedented for Russia - for captive breeding and culturing of aquatic organisms.
“Earlier this month the Penghu Aquarium reopened after a large-scale renovation, and the Primorsky Aquarium delegation attended the opening ceremony,” said Sergey Loginov, Director of the Primorsky Aquarium. “The Penghu Aquarium authorities are interested in two major educational projects carried out at our scientific and educational complex: “Growing up at the Aquarium” and “Environmental Education”. Our Taiwanese colleagues are planning to launch similar programs. We are pleased to share our experience with them and ready to host trainees from the Penghu Aquarium.”
Experience will be exchanged bilaterally: new techniques of breeding and culturing marine fish and invertebrates, such as horseshoe crabs, cuttlefish and seahorses, are being developed and improved in Penghu County. The foreign partners’ skills will help our specialists to implement captive breeding programs for tropical marine animals and to tailor them to the specific features of the Primorsky Aquarium.
“Our collaboration with the Penghu Aquarium will facilitate an increase in the visual appeal of the Primorsky Aquarium exhibits and contribute to the conservation of marine biodiversity,” Sergey Loginov added.
