The participants shared their experience of educational work in the field of salmon conservation, discussed effective forms and modern methods of conservation advocacy, and organization of educational work.
Sociological surveys that had been conducted before the seminar had shown that people in Primorsky Region did not understand that salmon conservation was as important as conservation of Amur leopard and Amur tiger. That is why one of the main goals for the seminar was to provide training for educators and prepare a handbook on salmon conservation for school children.
The seminar’s special guest was Rita Bell, the Director of Education from Monterey Bay Aquarium, one of the best Aquariums in the United States. Rita’s speech about methods, forms and ways of organizing environmental education programs for people of different ages raised a discussion about the possibility of implementing these programs here in Primorsky Region.
