    The Primorsky Aquarium has several new additions to its penguin family – chicks have hatched to six pairs of Humboldt penguins. Of two eggs laid by a female penguin, only one is usually fertile, and two chicks born to a pair are a real luck. The Aquarium has been lucky twice.

    15.01.2021 – The Aquarium becomes home to a scorpion for the first time

    The Tropical Rain Forest exhibit has welcomed about a hundred newcomers: bird spiders, chameleons, lizards, several species of frogs and a scorpion. Among the new arrivals there are species that have never been represented in the Aquarium’s collection before - for example, the Asian forest scorpion and the fire skink.

    11.01.2021 – More colours: the underwater tunnel is decorated with a “garland” of bright fishes

    The large community inhabiting the underwater tunnel tank has seen the addition of more than fifty tropical fish relocated from the Science and Acclimation Building of the Primorsky Aquarium. The newcomers include foxface rabbitfish (Siganus vulpinus), sailfin snappers (Symphorichthys spilurus), yellowbanded sweetlips (Plectorhinchus lineatus) and yellow tangs (Zebrasoma flavescens). These fish are very bright, and each of them has various shades of yellow in its colouration.

    25.12.2020 – The Primorsky Aquarium looks forward to welcoming guests during New Year holidays

    Over the New Year holidays, the Primorsky Aquarium will operate on a special schedule. The facility will be closed on December 31 and January 1. Throughout the rest of the holidays — from January 2 to January 10 — the Aquarium will be open to the public daily, including Monday, January 4: the maintenance activities, which are usually conducted on this weekday, will be cancelled. The exhibits of one of the world’s largest aquariums will be available to visitors from 10 a.m. till 8 p.m.

    18.12.2020 – Spotted seal gets back to the Primorsky Aquarium after a long journey

    After an absence of half a year, one of the Primorsky Aquarium’s six spotted seals — Dulcinea, or Dusya for short — has returned home! Her journey lasted from May to late November. As this period coincides with the seals’ seasonal migration, Igor Katin, who is Scientific Head at the Laboratory of Marine Mammals, the A. V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology, FEB RAS and Principal Specialist at the Primorsky Aquarium Shared Equipment Facility, thinks that Dusya, together with a major portion of the spotted seals from Peter the Great Bay, travelled a long way.
