    25.06.2019 – Large shipyard intends to ‘adopt’ Jupiter.

    The Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex has signed a letter of intent with the Primorsky Aquarium. The document reflects an initiative of the shipyard to patronize one of the Aquarium inhabitants – a 3-moths-old pup of the spotted seal called Jupiter. Its birth has become a major step forward in science as Jupiter is the world’s first spotted seal conceived, gestated, born and reared in captivity.

    04.06.2019 – The first year of the Aquarium’s large-scale educational project is over.

    The first year of the Growing up at the Aquarium project ended with a graduation ceremony. The event was attended by participants in all four project stages and their parents, as well as by participants in the Crystal Bridge project designed for children with special needs. More than 50 children aged between 5 and 17 took part in the Growing up at the Aquarium project in 2018-2019 school year.

    31.05.2019 – The Aquarium at the heart of international cooperation

    Last week the Primorsky Aquarium was attended by a substantial delegation from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam headed by Mr. Ngo Hoai Chung, Deputy Director General of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. The delegation also included staff members of the Consulate General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, representatives of the largest Vietnamese travel agencies and leading performers of the Vietnam National Music, Song and Dance Theatre.

    24.05.2019 – Like an exhibition: ornamental carps return to the outdoor ponds.

    The ponds located in the walking area of the Primorsky Aquarium are becoming populated with fish that spent winter in the Research Building for Adaptation. Koi carps, common minnows and European perches were the first to be returned outdoors.

    15.05.2019 – A cold water jelly goes on display at the Primorsky Aquarium.

    A brown-banded moon jellyfish (Aurelia limbata) has been added to the “Sea of Japan/East Sea” exhibit. Though this cold water species inhabits the marine waters of Primorye, it is rather difficult to encounter its individuals in the wild. Unlike many other jellyfish species tending to swim near the surface, the brown-banded moon jellyfish lives at a depth of 20 meters and prefers temperatures around 5-6° С.

    07.05.2019 – Reaching for a starfish

    Since the 1st of May, two of the open fish tanks located at the “Sea of Japan” exhibit have been used as touch pools. It means that the Aquarium’s visitors can both view the dwellers of the Far Eastern seas and touch some of them – gently and respectfully. The main “characters” of the touch pool are various starfish species of different shapes and colours. The pool is also a home to black and grey sea urchins, mussels, scallops and coastal crabs.

    15.04.2019 – World’s first success in captive breeding of the spotted seal

    On the 6th of March the Aquarium’s female spotted seal (Phoca largha) delivered a pup. The newborn named Jupiter is a pioneer in many ways: it is the first marine mammal born at the Primorsky Aquarium, and it is the world’s first spotted seal conceived, gestated, born and reared in captivity.

    08.04.2019 – Unique core facility is founded at the Primorsky Aquarium.

    The first Russian Shared Equipment Facility (SEF) for research in marine biology has started its work in the Primorsky Aquarium. The facility exists to provide scientists from all over the world with an opportunity to conduct investigations using state-of-the-art laboratories, equipment and biotechnological resources of the research complex.
