29.11.2018 – New director at the Primorsky Aquarium
On November 17, Sergey Loginov was appointed Director of the Primorsky Aquarium, Branch of the NSCMB FEB RAS. The appointment order was signed by the governing board of the FSBSI “A.V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology”, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
28.11.2018 – The Aquarium’s scientists make a deep impression on the Congress participants.
The 10th International Aquarium Congress ((IAC) was held in Fukushima, Japan, from 5 to 10 November. More than 450 participants from Australia, China, France, Germany, Japan, Poland, the RSA, Russia, the USA and some other countries attended the IAC. Two specialists of the Primorsky Aquarium, Olga Shevchenko and Marat Khaidarov, were among the invited guests and presented their reports at the Congress.
22.11.2018 – Small but deadly dangerous.
Three species of dyeing dart frogs have been added to the collection of amphibians inhabiting the “Tropical Rainforest” exhibit. The species are native to South America where local tribes used their poison to coat the tips of blowgun darts. The toxin secreted through the skin of dyeing dart frogs is neuroparalytic and deadly both to animals and humans.
20.11.2018 – International Summit participants visit the Primorsky Aquarium.
The visitors included the Governor of the Central aimag of Mongolia, Jigjid Batjargal, a delegation of ecologists and a number of print press journalists from Tottori prefecture (Japan), Gangwon province (South Korea), Jilin province (China) and the Central aimag of Mongolia.
14.11.2018 – New dwellers of the “World of Sharks” exhibit.
One more shark species has been added to the Aquarium’s collection of large marine predators. Two male whitetip reef sharks have been moved from the Research Building for Adaptation to the main building of the Aquarium and placed in the “World of Sharks” exhibit.
08.11.2018 – The Primorsky Aquarium has started growing corals.
The new aquarian system for invertebrates has become operational in the Primorsky Aquarium, which made it possible to keep tropical mollusks, sea urchins, starfish, and corals maximally close to their natural habitat. The International charity fund “Konstantinovsky” was instrumental in purchasing the equipment.
28.10.2018 – Marine litter monitoring on the beaches of the Zhitkov Peninsula.
A few specialists of the Environmental Education Center of the Primorsky Aquarium along with senior pupils from the VSUES boarding school for gifted children have made a beach litter survey of the Zhitkov Peninsula. During the survey they collected about 50 kg of debris mainly consisting of foam polystyrene, plastics and bolt timber.
26.10.2018 – Growing up at the Aquarium.
A new large-scale project, Growing up at the Aquarium, has been launched this autumn. The educational program is designed for children of different ages. In the framework of the project pupils will pass through a number of learning stages and get information from various fields of marine biology. The project implies the continuous study of marine biology by children from preschool age through high school age and consists of four stages.
22.10.2018 – The Aquarium holds an unparalleled contest.
The Primorsky Aquarium is currently accepting entries for the Sixth Ocean Contest which is held to find the best comprehensive assistance programs for children with disabilities. The contest is open to community college and university students specializing in Pedagogy and Medicine.
15.10.2018 – Rare blue crab attracts visitors’ attention
Among the Kamchatka crabs inhabiting the tank at the Bering Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk Exhibit there is a blue crab remarkable for its unusual coloration. The species has got the name of blue crab precisely because of the colour.
12.10.2018 – Unique project is restarted at the Aquarium.
The “Educational Environment” project was resumed on September 19, 2018. Every Wednesday of the school year the Primorsky Aquarium will be open only for organized groups of preschool and school children and university students.
15.09.2018 – The Ambassador of France to Russia pays a visit to the Primorsky Aquarium.
The diplomats viewed the exhibits of the scientific and educational centre and attended some learning laboratories where in the framework of a number of educational projects launched by the Aquarium classes on marine biology are conducted.
28.08.2018 – Marine riches will be shown to the EEF guests
The Primorsky Aquarium will demonstrate species diversity of the Sea of Japan/East Sea at the Far Eastern Street Exhibition in the framework of the 10th Eastern Economic Forum. In a touch–pool placed in the Primorsky Region pavilion the visitors will be able to see such sea inhabitants as sea anemones, scallops, masked greenlings, Japanese cucumaria, flatfish and many others.
10.08.2018 – Beach litter survey in the Far Eastern Marine Reserve
From 3 to 6 August, a few specialists of the Primorsky Aquarium made a beach litter survey on the sandbar of Cape Ostrovok Falshivy in the southern part of the Far Eastern Marine Reserve.
06.08.2018 – The world's first captive breeding of zebra bullhead shark
As a result of the breeding program carried out by the Primorsky Aquarium biologists, a zebra bullhead shark has laid eggs. For the first time in the world this species has reproduced in captivity.
