    25.03.2019 – New penguins join the flock at the Primorsky Aquarium.

    Eight Humboldt penguins have passed the quarantine phase and moved to the “Polar World” exhibit of the Primorsky Aquarium. Now the birds are acclimating to their new home that provides them with the conditions as similar as possible to those in the wild. They got acquainted with the old residents, as the phrase goes, “in a friendly atmosphere”: the birds readily mingled with each other and formed a joint flock.

    12.03.2019 – A pearl stingray is born in the Primorsky Aquarium.

    In the Research Building for Adaptation of the Primorsky Aquarium a baby has been born to Potamotrygon sp. “Pearl ray”, the rarest species of freshwater stingray also known as the pearl river stingray. The newborn is weighing about 80 g, and its disc width is 8 cm.

    28.02.2019 – A stir in the Ocean Abyss

    Two zebra sharks (Stegostoma fasciatum), the Aquarium’s biggest fish, have become permanent residents of the “Ocean Abyss” tank, which is the largest one in the Primorsky Aquarium.

    19.02.2019 – Aquarium guests are offered to participate in fish feeding.

    Our visitors can feed the fish living in the touch pool of the “Sea of Japan/East Sea” Exhibit. The feeding sessions take place from 14.00 to 14.30 on Tuesday and Friday; rockfish, greenlings and flounders are fed with fresh squid.

    25.01.2019 – Poisonous fish are moved to a separate tank

    Two spot-fin porcupinefish (Diodon hystrix) have been placed in an individual aquarium in the “Tropical Seas” exhibit.

    18.01.2019 – Glowing corals are cultivated in the Primorsky Aquarium.

    The first corals grown in the Primorsky Aquarium can be seen at the “Evolution of Life in the Ocean” exhibit. A soft leather coral, Sinularia, has been added to the tank with the cuttlefish. Gradually the live corals will be placed in some tanks of the other exhibits.

    15.01.2019 – A bit of eternal summer in the Primorsky Aquarium

    Regardless of the season and the weather, our visitors are met by blooming orchids at the “Tropical Rain Forest” exhibit. There you can find both species orchids growing as indigenous plants in the wild and hybrid ones bred by man.

    28.12.2018 – “Three-eyed” fish are added to the Aquarium’s collection.

    Five silver Asian arowanas have arrived to the Primorsky Aquarium. The fish are very young: their body length does not exceed 10 cm, and they have not lost their juvenile coloration. At the beginning of its life the arowana has a spot resembling a third eye that distorts its body proportions. While hunting, predators choose their prey assessing the size of its head from the tip of the snout to the eyes, and the spot makes them think that the fish is larger than they can eat.

    21.12.2018 – Underwater arithmetic

    The new aquaria system for invertebrates, which came into operation in the Primorsky Aquarium 2 months ago, is becoming inhabited. It helps to provide tropical mollusks, sea urchins, starfish and corals with conditions as similar as possible to the ones of their natural habitat. The equipment was purchased with assistance from the Konstantinovsky International Charitable Foundation.

    19.12.2018 – Nannies for newcomers to “Ocean Abyss”

    Twenty cobias that are distant relatives of the remoras living in the “Ocean Abyss” exhibit have been added to the tank. The cobia is a fast predator growing up to 1.8 meters in length. But the new inhabitants of the “Abyss” are still quite young (their body length doesn’t exceed 40 cm), and after being placed in the huge tank, the fish immediately chose the largest residents of the exhibit, round ribbontail rays, as permanent companions.

    14.12.2018 – “Ocean of Hope” will take place on the last Saturday of December.

    For two years now, the volunteers of the Primorsky Aquarium have been holding a monthly charity event, “Ocean of Hope”, which aims to help children in difficult circumstances and children with disabilities. The next “Ocean of Hope” event will be conducted on December 29; its young participants will traditionally get acquainted with the largest Aquarium’s inhabitants, white whales, and go on an overview tour of the Aquarium.

    11.12.2018 – The Aquarium awaits visitors during New Year holidays.

    The Primorsky Aquarium will change its schedule for the New Year holidays. It will be closed on December 31 and January 1. From January 2 through 8, the Aquarium will be open daily for visitors.

    10.12.2018 – Cuttlefish put on camouflage before dinner.

    Some visitors think that one of the fish tanks in the “Evolution of Life in the Ocean” exhibit is empty but in reality it serves as a home to a master of camouflage - a golden cuttlefish. The cephalopod uses its camouflage skills almost in every life situation such as hunting, hiding from predators and intraspecific communication. For example, when a rival is nearby, the cuttlefish turns bright-coloured or, sometimes, even black.

    03.12.2018 – Popular TV travel program films an episode in the Primorsky Aquarium.

    An episode of the Spanish-language TV travel program ‘La Dolce Vita’ has been shot at the Primorsky Aquarium. The program is shown on prime-time on one of the highest-rated TV channels in Latin America, Caracol Internacional, which has an audience of 24 million viewers. The program is filmed in different parts of the world, and its production center is situated in Miami.
