27.10.2020 – The Primorsky Aquarium serves as one of science festival venues
All-Russian Science Festival “NAUKA 0+”, the world’s largest science popularization project, is annually held from October through November on more than 400 venues in 80 regions of Russia. In most regions the 2020 Festival is being conducted online.
21.10.2020 – The Primorsky Aquarium-bred Amur sleepers make their debut in the exhibit
Amur sleepers bred at the Primorsky Aquarium have been transferred from the Science and Acclimation Building to the Exhibit Building. The young-of-the-year are making themselves at home in the themed tank with hibernating fishes.
12.10.2020 – Career workshops are resumed at the Aquarium
The Primorsky Aquarium has started the second year of career workshops for kids and teens. During sessions specially developed for the Aquarium visitors, anyone can try his or her hand at being a scientist, microbiologist, tour guide or animator.
30.09.2020 – Its name is Alf: the first successful breeding of zebra sharks in Russia
A zebra shark pup has hatched at the Primorsky Aquarium – it is the first captive breeding of this shark species in Russia. The hatchling weighed 100 g and measured 27 cm from the nose to the tip of the tail: the young was twice as long as the egg case, in which it had developed for six months and ten days.
22.09.2020 – Lunch for carps
Three times a week – on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday – those who wish may participate in feeding carps in the large pond at the promenade area of the Primorsky Aquarium. Visitors will be invited to feed the fish with a balanced pelleted food suitable for these cyprinids.
17.09.2020 – A new project for high school pupils by the Primorsky Aquarium
The project called ‘Research and Project Ideas Lab’ seeks to assist school children and teachers in the new school year. The Primorsky Aquarium and its partners, among which there are some scientific institutions of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, museums, business companies, environmental and educational organizations, have jointly prepared 14 case studies with assignments from different fields.

The Primorsky Aquarium resumed operations on September 10. During our closure, we have been preparing for our reopening, and now we are so happy to see you all again!
10.09.2020 – Underside view: a fresh angle on the seafloor
A new exhibit featuring bottom-dwellers from the Sea of Japan has been established at the Primorsky Aquarium. Now, one can observe helmet and Alaskan hermit crabs, white-edged and Korean rockfish, scallops and sea peaches after “total immersion” in the tank equipped with a transparent dome.
28.08.2020 – Summer newcomers
Thirteen species of fish and invertebrates have been brought to Vladivostok from Moscow. Some of them will be displayed at the Primorsky Aquarium for the first time.
25.08.2020 – The educational center “Sirius” and the Primorsky Aquarium launch a new online course
On August 19, the educational center started publishing a new online course on its YouTube channel. The course is prepared by staff members of the Primorsky Aquarium and includes 4 lectures given in Russian.

Biologists at the Primorsky Aquarium are conducting an experimental breeding program for marine tropical fish and some invertebrates: corals and sea anemones. The aquarists have found notable success in propagating anemone fishes: of the nine clown fish species residing at the Aquarium, four reproduced in the course of the last six months. Apart from normal looking offspring, there are some individuals with bizarre, “non-natural” patterns.

“This is the first brood for the Chacoan horned frogs living in the Tropical Rain Forest exhibit of the Primorsky Aquarium,” says Artyom Gerasimenko, a staff member of the Tropical Rain Forest Department. “Interestingly, the babies displayed some of the species’ personality traits right after hatching”.
13.07.2020 – Pheromone traps are set on trees in the promenade area of the Aquarium
Vegetation health monitoring is being conducted on the Primorsky Aquarium’s grounds: special traps for pest insects have been placed in the coniferous and deciduous trees, and in the shrubs.
16.06.2020 – Sea patterns in “Sea Reflection”: a creativity contest by the Primorsky Aquarium
The Primorsky Aquarium has summed up the results of the regional creativity contest called “Sea Reflection”. This year it included three categories: essay, video art and drawing. Some one hundred entries were submitted for the contest by participants from Vladivostok, Arsenyev, Artyom, Bolshoy Kamen, Dalnegorsk, Lesozavodsk, Ussuriysk and other towns and villages in Primorye.
10.06.2020 – Made at the Aquarium: biologists expand a jellyfish breeding program
The Primorsky Aquarium is taking its jellyfish breeding program to a new level of quality: the scientific and educational center has received aquarium systems that will enable its biologists to increase the number of cultured species.
